Gilt is an online sample sale site. Gilt Group stages online ‘flash’ sales, offering women’s, men’s and children’s designer apparel and accessories, designer home goods and high-end travel destinations at discounted prices in a limited time sale format, typically 36 to 48 hours. They feature merchandise from a single brand or small groups of brands at prices 50%-70% off of manufacturer’s suggested retail prices. An email announcing the start of each day’s sales is sent to all members shortly before the sale starts, and orders are taken on a first come, first-served basis. Gilt’s site is invitation-only, which lends it the air of exclusivity that labels are looking for. But scoring a free membership is easy; you can either be invited by one of the one of the existing members or by requesting an invitation through customer service.

Curators seek out luxurious events, services and experiences available in major cities and offer discounts and deals to Gilt Group members. Currently, Gilt City is available in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami and Chicago.
